My Story
Art is a huge part of my life, so much so that my partner coined a personal slogan for me, “If she stops crafting, she’ll die." But it didn’t just happen overnight. Some of my fondest memories from my childhood are playing Pokémon on my Game Boy Color. It was because of this game that my interest in art started to blossom. I wanted to pull those characters through the screen and into my reality. I would spend hours doodling in my sketch pad creating my own Pokémon and characters to adventure alongside the ones everyone knew and loved. Over time my skills in illustration grew and I decided to take up a new medium I had not touched since I was 5 years old, clay. I was 20 years old when I tried my hand at sculpture and I absolutely hated what I created and vowed to never touch the stuff again. That was until 2018 when my college art professor told me that my understanding of anatomy for illustration would transfer over very well into three dimensional works, so I took up clay again. I decided to sculpt my World of Warcraft (WoW) character for the 2018 Blizzcon Art contest- using polymer clay that bakes in your own kitchen oven. Even though I did not win the contest, the overwhelming positive feedback I received from the online community inspired me to create more sculpture work, most of which was people asking me to make them their own WoW characters in clay. It was then that I discovered I wasn’t the only one who wanted to bring my video game personas into the real world. Oftentimes we don’t get to have physical representations of the characters we create in games. I made it my job to bring those characters to life in semi-realistic illustrations and sculptures that have a fantasy flare with intricate details that pop.
